KASHA

I don't know about you, but I love kasha. For the unitiated, kasha is a buckwheat groat that when cooked can be eaten in a variety of ways. In the Eastern Jewish culinary tradition, kasha is prepared with bow tie pastas (kasha varnishkas) and frequently smothered with onions and brown gravy. I personally prefer the kasha without the varnishkas as a side dish to brisket and roast chicken. Many people like to put kasha in their matzoh ball soup or as filling for knishes. So the next time that you dine at Max and Benny's, consider enhancing your matzoh ball soup with some kasha, and be sure to stop at our deli counter and take home some kasha varnishkas.
